World No. 54 Matt Kuchar (45-USA) held the hand of his son Cameron (16) as they headed to the PNC Championship in Orlando, Fla.
Team Kutcher (pictured) shot a 15-under-par 57 to take a three-stroke lead after the first round of the tournament at The Ritz-Carlton GC (par-72) in Orlando, Florida (USA) on Sunday. The event is a friendly competition where professionals play in two-person teams with their families. It’s a scramble format where each player hits a shot and the better ball wins the next shot.
Playing in rainy conditions, the father-son duo carded one eagle and 13 birdies without a bogey for a 15-under-par 57. That was one stroke shy of the record of 56 set by David Love III and his son Drew in 2018. “I enjoy playing in bad weather, because nobody likes it,” Cameron said after the tournament.
Team Langer (Bernhard Langer and Jason-Germany), Team Singh (Vijay Singh and Kas-Fiji), Team Goosen (Retief Goosen and Leo-South Africa) and Team Duval (David Duval and Brady-USA) are three shots back in second place at 12-under-par 60. Retired golf queen Annika Sorenstam (53-Sweden) is tied for seventh (10-under-par 62) with her son Will McGee.
Tiger Woods (48-U.S.), who is set to return to golf next season, finished 11th in the 20-man field with his son Charlie (14), caddied by daughter Sam (16), at 8-under-par 64. Team Woods had previously finished runner-up in 2021 in three consecutive appearances. He finished seventh in 2020 and eighth last year.
Charlie impressed his father with a 300-yard long drive that he made with his big 토토 frame (he’s 6’2″) and a powerful swing. “I hit my driver well, but my putting was terrible,” Charlie said, and Woods nodded in agreement.
Throughout the match, Woods was all smiles. “Sam was fantastic,” he said. It couldn’t have been more special for my family because it’s the first time he’s caddied for me,” he said. “It’s special to have two kids on the course with me.”
